If you have never had a household budget before, there is no time like the present to start one. 

Budgeting your money is important to help you reach your financial goals. 

Making a budget is not as hard as you might think.  The hardest part is staying motivated to stick to your budget. 

Here are the steps to creating a monthly budget. 

 1. List your income. 

Forms of income include: *Paychecks *Child Support *Rent from tenants *401K distributions *Social security checks

 2. List your monthly expenses. 

List all your household expenses.  You can use budget categories to help get organized, so you don't forget anything.

3.  Subtract your expenses from your income. 

If your income does not cover all of your expenses, you will need to find ways to reduce your expenses or increase your income.

Don't forget to save for your future. 

"Pay yourself first" means to save money before paying your bills.  You can think of saving money as one of your essential expenses.
