Helpful Tips for Your Next No-Spend Challenge

A no-spend challenge is a set period of time when you stop spending money on unnecessary things.

Also called a spending freeze, this self-guided challenge can help you reset your spending habits.

If you are looking to spend less on unnecessary things to free up money in your budget, here are 12 tips to help you succeed.

1.  Deposit the money you save directly into your savings account to keep it safe to use for your financial goals.

2.  Leave most of your credit cards at home.  Consider carrying only one credit card in your wallet to use for necessities (and then pay it off every month).

 3. Tell your friends and family you are completing a no-spend challenge, so they don't tempt you to participate in activities that involve spending money.

 4.  Meal plan around what you already have.  Consider stocking up on groceries before your no-spend challenge to avoid impulse buys at the grocery store.

5.  Uninstall shopping apps.  Technology makes it too easy to buy things we don't need.  Uninstall apps to avoid the temptation.
